For the contest if i made a model for a new block then made a texture for that would that count as a new sprite?

I'm going to have to say no on that one. The contest is specifically for the re-texturing of the existing items and blocks that are in the mod.
If you would like to send it to me as a suggestion, then that would acceptable, but it would not be eligible for entry in the contest.
